Jokowi Promised the Labors These 3 Things

Commemorating Labor Day or May Day, several housemaids (PRT) visited the official residence of Jakarta Governor Joko Widodo (Jokowi) on Jalan Taman Suropati No. 7, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Thursday (5/1).

Labors are an integral part of Indonesian citizens, and therefore it is an obligation to support and fight three things for them, namely worthy work, worthy wage, and worthy life

In that occasion, those housemaids complained about the low wage received every month. They also demanded to acquire labor’s rights as regulated in Law No. 13/2003 on Manpower.

Listiawati, the housemaids’ representative, admitted that every month she and her fellow housemaids only received wage about Rp 500-600 thousand. That amount is certainly not able to fulfill the needs of daily lives.

Basuki: Labors, Please Don’t Be Anarchic

“Besides raise in wage, we also want our work to be recognized in law, same with other labors. And, we also want to get the same rights as other labors, such as day off,” she uttered.

Responding those housemaids’ complaints, Jokowi assessed that their demands are still reasonable. According to him, those complaints are some basic problems that have not been fully addressed.

“Economic growth is indeed important, but equalization is more important. Don’t let unequal income happen,” he asserted.

On the other hand, Jokowi told that he is committed to realize three things for the labors and Indonesian workers.

Labors are an integral part of Indonesian citizens, and therefore it is an obligation to support and fight three things for them, namely worthy work, worthy wage, and worthy life,” he stated.
